CANADA'S NEXT LITERARY SUPERSTAR — In The Making

Seventy-two grueling hours and 12 novels later, the weekend is over. After three days of intense writing, fierce competition, and late-night escapades, the contestants have returned home, the computers are packed up, and the manuscripts are in the judges' hands.

Who completed their novel? Which of the twelve finalists will win the second annual "3-Day Novel Contest"? Check back in the new year for the "3-Day Novel Contest" series to find out!

What is the 3-Day Novel Contest?

On the Labour Day Long Weekend, BookTelevision dropped a dozen writers from across Canada to participate in the world's most grueling literary competition, the "3-Day Novel Contest," live on national television. This year, the would-be novelists will vie for a prize package that includes a $5000 cash award!

Since 1977, thousands of participants have competed in the International 3-Day Novel Contest, hoping to finish a book, score fame, and get published. This Labour Day long weekend, BookTelevision will once again partner with the International 3-Day Novel Contest. 12 writers will write 12 novels in just 72 hours as they battle crowds, cameras, fatigue, each other, and themselves in the competition to become Canada's next literary superstar.

This year, there was something extra to strive for: television stardom and literary notoriety and a $5000 cash award! The novelists braved the usual rigors of the contest as well as crowds, spelling bees, cameras, poets, and "The Thirteenth Machine." BookTelevision broadcast the drama of this unusual endurance test with featured specials and regular live updates throughout the weekend.

Beyond the literary glory, our broadcast winner will receive a week-long mentorship at a prestigious writer's retreat, sponsored by the Writers Guild of Alberta, and publication in Westword, one of Alberta's premiere writing magazines.
