George Jonas
Stephen Spielberg's new film about the 1972 Munich Massacre and the events that followed is generating a lot of buzz.
What most don't know is that the film is based on the 1984 book Vengeance, by Toronto Journalist George Jonas.
Having your book adapted to the silver screen is nothing new, but as is evident in a recent MacLean's article the
transition isn't always smooth.
George R.R. Martin
Time magazine called George R.R. Martin “an American Tolkien”. His A Song of Ice and Fire series is a natural successor to “Lord of The Rings” and has even inspired board game. The latest release in the on-going saga is A Feast For Crows.
Alejandro Jodorowsky
South American filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky, is perhaps best known for his underground cult film El Topo, which the late John Lennon referred to as " a masterpiece." For the last 25 years Jodorowsky has also been writing comics in an attempt for him to articulate his surrealist visions, without the demands of enormous film budgets or studio accountability.
Chronicles of Narnia
Most of us grew up reading C.S. Lewis' fantasy masterpiece, The Chronicles of Narnia. So it is no surprise, especially considering the recent advancements in visual special effects, that Hollywood has adapted Lewis's classic, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe to the silver screen.
Tristan and Isolde Before Romeo and Juliet, and long before Lancelot and Guinevere, there was the legendary myth of Tristan and Isolde. And considering Hollywood's passion for tortured star crossed lovers, it's amazing that this doomed medieval romance, set in England's Dark Ages, is only hitting theatres now.
Jack Whyte The legend of King Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot, has fascinated people for generations, and author Jack Whyte is among them. He has been researching the legends origin for more than 30 years for his Arthurian legend series, A Dream of Eagles. His writing and research came to a conclusion recently with the last installment entitled The Eagle.
Karen Bliss Karen Bliss is a well-known music journalist but she has just published her first children’s book The Girl With Pinhead Parents. Karen enlisted another music chum Bonnie Fedrau, a former artist and repertoire manager, to illustrate the work. Needless to say, friends from the music world helped Karen celebrate the book launch.
