The Giller Prize
At $40,000, it’s one of Canada’s most lucrative book awards. The Scotiabank Giller prize, named after the late Doris Giller, a reporter and editor, is one of the most anticipated night for those members of the literary set lucky enough to be invited…jewels, gowns, great food, and huge career break for the winner.

Governor General’s Literary Awards
Also handed out recently were the Governor General’s Literary Awards, one of Canada’s most prestigious literary awards. A tradition that dates back to 1937, the awards are handed out in both French and English in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, children’s literature (text and illustration) and translation. Each winner is awarded $15,000 and a specially-crafted copy of the winning book bound by Montreal bookbinder Lise Dubois.

International Press Freedom Awards
Some of the biggest names in Canadian Journalism gathered in Toronto to honour their international counterparts with the Press Freedom Awards. A $3000 prize is given in recognition for the courage and determination of journalists who regularly face obstacles in order to get the story published. 

IFOA
For 27 years, it’s been Canada’s finest celebration of the written word. Over 10,000 authors, publishers, historians and book fans meet in Toronto for the annual International Festival of Authors. From Royalty to Mystery, it’s 11 days of readings, interviews and of course, parties.

Mandela
It’s perhaps one of the most widely recognized faces on the planet and for many he's become the embodiment of peace, freedom and justice. Mandela, The Authorized Portrait, was recently released and videographer Lars-Peter Bjornson sat down with editorial consultant and longtime friend of Mandela, Mr. Mac Maharaj.
