 Moving Mountains
The connection between poverty and AIDS is well known to researchers. So it makes perfect sense that the drugs that help people cope with the disease should be as cheap as possible, particularly in Africa where the effects of AIDS are devastating. But of course big business sees it differently. Anne-Christine d’Adesky is the author of Moving Mountains and its companion documentary Pills, Profits, Protest. Anne-Christine takes an inside look at the big drug companies who she says hold access to life-saving drugs that could change the face of AIDS. We caught up with her at the 2006 International AIDS conference in Toronto.

When New Yorker and Glamour magazine cartoonist Marisa Acocella Marchetto was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, her high-fashion lifestyle came to a halt. To get through her ordeal, Marchetto turned to cartooning - and her obsession with designer shoes - to write the graphic memoir Cancer Vixen, which is now slated for the big screen starring Cate Blanchett. We took her shoe shopping, of course, to learn how she ultimately kicked cancer!
