The Word This Week

Show #6-18 – May 6, 2007

Colin Angus
If you’re like many others, you may find it hard to make exercise a regular part of your day. In which case, you’ll marvel at Colin Angus. Not only did he work out every day for a good 2 years, but he managed to hike, bike, and row his way around the globe. Colin turned his exploits into a book and DVD and Lars Peter Bjornson met up with him.

Planet India
India has long fascinated Westerners. It's the world's largest democracy and fastest growing market with a population of 1.2 billion people. Big businesses are turning to India's burgeoning market, Bollywood is booming and Author Mira Kamdar says the 21st Century is India’s to lose.

WIKIPEDIA
Odds are that you or someone close to you uses it daily, and thanks to something called a Wiki and ever spreading Internet access, Wikipedia is among the fastest growing sites on the internet. A Wiki is basically a program that allows internet users to quickly and easily submit information to websites, and yes it is the engine that drives a site like Wikipedia.

Jeff Buick
Jeff Buick is from Calgary and he’s made a name for himself writing thrillers. His latest is Shell Game. We spoke to him at his book launch in Edmonton.

Bernice Lum
Originally from Toronto, Bernice Lum moved to the UK in 1988 to try and kick-start her career as an illustrator. She did exactly that and then some. She became a children’s book author as well and 22 books of hers have been published, her first two selling over 150,000 copies. Bernice has since moved back to Toronto and become a multi-disciplinary artist, where she recently created a series of bears based on Lava Life profiles.

A Mermaid's Tale
Former model turned author, Amanda Adams has always been drawn to the fantastical world of mermaids. In her book, A Mermaid’s Tale, she chronicles our fascination with these water creatures across the centuries. Along the way Videographer Lars-Peter Bjornson learns that the mermaid, at some point or other, was an integral part of cultures all over the globe.
