Show #7-18 – April 13, 2008
The Rundown
Mariko and Jillian Tamaki have launched their new graphic novel Skim, The prize for Oddest Book Title of the Year and the shortlist for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
3 Day Novel Writing Contest
Back in September, Rachel Harry headed out west to Edmonton to host BookTelevision’s live broadcast event of the 3-Day Novel Contest. We turned the cameras on 12 hand-picked writers trying to write an entire novel in the middle of the city’s biggest Chapters bookstore, all in three days. The series will hit the air later this year and we show you a sneak preview.
Clive Barker
Clive Barker, the man behind Hellraiser, is adept at illustrating and directing his own novels. But with his latest work he's reversed the process inspired by his paintings and he's now writing Abarat Book 3, Absolute Midnight, due out in 2009.
Some Family
In his book Some Family, Professor Donald Harman Akenson poses the question “How does humanity keep track of itself?” One way is through the meticulous work of genealogists, specifically Mormon genealogists, who have archived the largest family tree in the world. Producer Rob McMahon took a trip out to Saltlake City, Utah, to get a glimpse inside this bastion of human history.
Christopher Dewdney
Renowned for his insightful cultural commentary and poetry, Christopher Dewdney investigates time in his latest book Soul of the World. While exploring the magic of past, present and future by observing the intricate cycles of the seasons, he ponders big questions like why time only flows in one direction, if time travel is possible, and if "now" can last forever.
